Terrarium Ornament

I am going for what I call "Natural Chic" as a look for holiday decor around the house this year and will parlay it through the winter months to make sure I can enjoy it to the max!  I was searching out a look for the tree and came across a beautiful site called Flora Grubb Gardens.  They are located in San Francisco (but can ship many creations to you) and as I browsed the site I was inspired by her Forest Floor ornaments, so decided I would try to make it a little DIY project.

I added in some natural elements from the yard... tiny acorns and pebbles as well as a little sparkle with extra fine glitter and a bit of tinsel.  I'm thinking these would be great gifts, too - A "From My House to Yours" theme!
Found these PLASTIC ornaments at Michael's.  The bigger size is better so you can fit more of a variety of decor inside.
A few different kinds of mosses so you have different textures.  The stringy type can be molded to give you a bit of height to fill the bulb.
It's simply not me without a bit of sparkle!  Just sprinkle the glitter in the ornament after you have added in all your items for a beautiful shimmer.
I rinsed the mini acorns and patted dry so they were a bit damp... The glitter stuck right to their little "top hats".  So pretty!

Decorating Day!

It's a nice, rainy day here in LA so we have deemed it perfectly appropriate to start decorating the house for the holidays!  I bought several new things in the last couple weeks ~ mainly from HomeGoods ~ as I was inspired by the recent catalog I received from Restoration Hardware.  They are using lots of natural elements with woods, pine cones, faux furs and muted colors which I love, so I hunted around and found some MUCH LESS expensive pieces to create my own version this year.

Here's a peek into my morning of fun!

Lots of sparkle and vintage tinsel adorn my Victorian mirror in the dining room.  I usually leave this up until end of February.
My new purchases all from HomeGoods - love the rustic colors!  The driftwood tree was over $80 at Restoration Hardware... got it for $30.  Santa was $12.99 and the bronze, glass tree sold for close to $40 at Pottery Barn was only $9.99!  PEOPLE!
My large, glass hurricane candle holder got a re-vamp with some basic plastic ball garland and glittery birds I got last year at Pottery Barn (after Christmas sale!)  When I light the candle in the center... Sparkle galore!!
Crystal snowflakes hang down from the dining room chandelier
Clusters of my rustic pottery mixed in with more driftwood trees and "golden geese eggs" (FYI - the smaller trees were also at HomeGoods and went down to as low as $4.99) are set around the house on tabletops to make the overall look cohesive throughout the house.
I love to adorn the spirits with fun, sparkly ornaments since all are pretty much out on display and in constant use for the next month.
My most treasured piece of artwork ~ Van Gogh's Starry Nights ~ beautifully re-drawn by my Father gets a little holiday cheers as well!
There is glitter everywhere and I love it!  I just hope the kittens don't start licking!
Mr. Baggage is currently on "outside lights" duty... I must go give my stamp of approval!
Have a fun weekend!

P.S. - I'm going to search out an old birdcage at a vintage shop and add this into the mix next weekend!  Don't you love it?
